First of all, I've got to urge everyone who is reading these words to get to the comic shop in September to pick up their very own copy of Metal Gear Solid #1. The more I work on this project, the more excited I get, and I can't wait until the general public gets to see what we're about to spring on 'em!

From the very first day that IDW Publishing opened its doors, we've wanted to work with Konami. We were able to do this starting last year, when we rolled out the Silent Hill: Dying Inside comic miniseries. Since then, we've also been fortunate enough to work closely with them in developing our CVO: Covert Vampiric Operations title into a Konami video game. And this year, it's on to Metal Gear Solid!

Metal Gear Solid will be an ongoing, monthly title. The story follows that of the original game: Solid Snake's infiltration of Shadow Moses Island in an effort to free hostages and end the threat of the genetically-enhanced terrorists now in control. Along the way, fans of the game will get a few surprises, as the script explores more fully some events that are only alluded to in game dialogue.

As much fun as I've had writing it, I'm really more eager to see the fans' reaction to the astonishing artwork being produced for the comic by Ashley Wood. IDW Publishing fans know well Ashley's amazing talent, and he's really pulled out all the stops on this one. Since Ash is a huge fan of Metal Gear Solid maven Hideo Kojima, and Kojima-san is likewise an Ashley Wood admirer, Ash is really pouring his heart and soul into each and every panel.

Metal Gear Solid is set to redefine what a video game comic can be. We at IDW Publishing hope you'll come along for the ride.
